What is the investment?

Is Deconstruct the box: whiteness right for me?

If you want to built towards a more inclusive world and make a sustainable positive social impact, then

YES, this program is for you!

This programme is for people who are determined to work on inclusion

and who understand that inclusion is a process and requires ongoing commitment;

for people who are willing to question themselves and their work environment for better solutions and who know that they are part of both the problem and the solution.

Who Leads the Training?

Deconstruct the Box: Whiteness is created and led by Crystal Hassell, an inclusion consultant and trainer, a theater maker, and above all, a change agent. Her practice is driven by the pressing issue of structural inequality.

She is inspired by critical whiteness and the love ethics of bell hooks. Critical whiteness studies how whiteness is embedded in societal structures and practices, producing, affirming, and reproducing power and privileges for white people. bell hooks’ love ethics are about the transformative power of love. bell hooks attributes six ingredients to love: care, commitment, trust, knowledge, respect, and responsibility. She connects her concept of love with the work of inclusion. These two theories have profoundly influenced Crystal’s work.

People often ask Crystal how she works on inclusion. The answer is that the two theories mentioned above form the foundation of her work. She also teaches these theories in Deconstruct the Box: Whiteness.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions

What is included in the training?

The training consists of an on-site kick-off, video trainings, workbooks, and online group coaching calls for each of the 6 modules, and an on-site wrap-up training day. Each component is designed to provide an in-depth exploration of diversity and inclusion.

I am already quite familiar with diversity and inclusion. How can I be sure this training is suitable for me?

It’s great that you already have a foundation in diversity and inclusion! The training stands out because we approach diversity and inclusion through Critical Theory and Critical Whiteness, offering a more in-depth and critical perspective than traditional trainings in this field. Even if you already have experience with diversity and inclusion, you will find that this training provides new insights and challenges you to think and act in an even more inclusive way. Regardless of your current level of knowledge, we encourage you to participate and benefit from the unique approach and deep reflection that our training offers.

What if I am afraid that my colleagues and supervisors will resist my efforts in diversity and inclusion?

It’s understandable that resistance might be a concern, but it’s important to remember that change often comes with resistance. The training will provide strategies to deal with resistance and ways to gain support from colleagues and supervisors. By sharing knowledge, offering practical tools, and promoting open communication, we can work together to create a culture of diversity and inclusion within your organization.

How much time will I spend on the training

While the exact number of hours may vary, on average, participants spend 5 to 7 hours on each module. This includes watching video trainings, completing the workbooks, reviewing additional resources, participating in group calls, and engaging with the accountability group. Overall, the training consists of multiple components, so you can expect to invest a substantial amount of time to fully engage and benefit from the program. This time investment is designed to complement and enhance your commitment to diversity and inclusion, both in your professional and personal life.

How long do the online group coaching calls last? And what if I miss a group coaching call?
